Museum Row: Spend The Day On Main Street

It’s winter in Louisville, but there are still plenty of things to do and see indoors. Perhaps you’re looking for a respite from the Bourbon Trail, or just want to take in some culture during your Louisville stay. Whatever your reason, here are six of our favorite museums and shops - conveniently located within four walkable blocks.

For tickets and information visit Museum Row on Main's website. Ticket discounts are available for seeing multiple attractions, or see all 6 main events for one low price. If you’re looking to stay in the area, there’s no better location than The 21C Museum & Hotel, which is every bit as much a museum as it is a place to stay.

Let’s explore:

Frazier History Museum

Website: http://fraziermuseum.org/

The Frazier History Museum is self-described as “home for everything that people in Kentucky are most proud of.” From the legendary pioneer, Daniel Boone, to the Lewis & Clark Expedition experience, The Frazier embodies the spirit of Kentuckians. Current exhibitions include The Spirits of Bluegrass: Prohibition in Kentucky, Bourbon History, and Kentucky By Design, just to name a few. See The Frazier’s website for information on current and upcoming exhibitions.

Evan Williams Bourbon Experience

So maybe you’ve heard - we’re kind of into bourbon here in Louisville. And by kind of, we mean completely obsessed. The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is the perfect place to kick off your bourbon trail exploration. Whether you’re a bourbon fanatic or not, this experience will take you back to the old days of bourbon distilling - 1783 - to learn the process and craftsmanship that goes into Louisville’s signature beverage.

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

No trip to Louisville would be complete without seeing the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. This Louisville hallmark lets you get up close and personal with the production and craftsmanship that goes into a Louisville Slugger bat. Sports enthusiasts will be enamored by the museum, showcasing baseball stars through the years, and everyone will enjoy the batting cages!

Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft

Kentucky Science Center

Website: http://kysciencecenter.org/

All about hands-on science exploration, The Kentucky Science Center is a great museum for adults and kids. In addition to great exhibits, there’s a 4-story 3D digital theater where you can experience the world from the comfort of your seat. (We highly recommend the KentuckyShow! experience at 1 PM daily.) Learn about everything the KSC has to offer, including showtimes, reservations, and more, at the center’s website.

Muhammad Ali Center

Website: http://www.alicenter.org/

The Muhammad Ali Center invites visitors into the life of legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali. Come along and experience Ali’s journey to greatness through three levels of acclaimed exhibits and galleries. The Muhammad Ali Center is an inspirational experience for all ages.

So there you have it, six incredible Louisville attractions. On your way back to the hotel, we think you should check out Louisville Glassworks to sample the hand-crafted glasswork of our local artisans, or make reservations for a show at The Kentucky Center. You can’t make a wrong choice here, and you certainly won’t run out of things to do and see!
